Interface began in 1973 when Ray Anderson, currently chairman of the board,
recognized the need for flexible floorcoverings for the modern office
environment. Anderson led a joint venture between Carpets International Plc., a
British company, and a group of American investors to produce and market
modular soft-surfaced floorcoverings.
Anderson established operations in LaGrange, GA, and Interface Flooring Systems
(now InterfaceFLOR Commercial) began manufacturing and distributing modular
carpet tiles in 1974. Over the years the company has grown to its current
status as the world's leading producer of soft-surfaced modular floorcoverings.
The original Interface has been augmented by over 50 acquisitions. But we are
one family of companies, united by our principles and focused on our unique
potential.
